Yikes, the NewsGator news-feed service has been down since early this morning.
A browser message describes this as "scheduled maintenance," but for more than six hours? Extending into the morning rush hour, as it were? Hmmm.
I've enjoyed my shiny new FeedDemon software for Windows and NetNewsWire for the Mac, NewsGator's slick RSS clients. But without the firm's back-end RSS syncing, the programs are so much useless code.
This bites, guys. My morning RSS fix has become as essential as e-mail, so this better get fixed soon.
Update: Reaction elsewhere:
There may be maintenance going on, but there’s no way I’ll buy that it was scheduled or planned. Something broke, they’re fixing it. I refuse to believe that any online service would schedule maintenance that would pull the service down at 9 am on a Tuesday morning. It’s like shutting down the highway to fix potholes at 4 pm on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. You just don’t do it unless it’s an emergency. (A View From Home)
I am finding this to be like when the electric is out at your home and you go into a room, flip the light switch only to be surprised that the lights don’t come on. I guess I have grown dependant beyond what is healthy and should be dried out. (DennisBullock.com)
AAAAARRRRRGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!
Newsgator is down -- how will I read my news? I need my fix! (I think I’m getting addicted to RSS feeds!) (J.P's Virtual Hangout)
All my RSS feeds are saved inside Newsgator Online that I synchronize with FeedDemon. Unfortunately, Newsgator Online has been down since morning and I haven't been able to access any of my daily subscriptions. The lesson I learned here is to always back up RSS subscriptions on another reader like Bloglines or Google Reader. Though it means extra work and you will come across items that you already read, you at least don't feel frustrated. (Digital Inspiration)
