Julio comics: Macworld newb, Han collector

1056

I almost splurted my milk onto my MacBook this morning when I pulled up the latest Joy of Tech comic and...saw myself on a Macworld Expo Celebrity Checklist.

I don't appear by name. I'm "Macworld Expo Newbie." That's after I appeared on Shawn King's Your Mac Life show as the designated Macworld newb:

Your Mac Life has anointed Julio Ojeda-Zapata, the Consumer Technology Columnist for the St. Paul Pioneer Press (He's the "Midwest David Pogue") as our "Official Macworld Expo Newbie!" Ojeda-Zapata will be attending his very first Macworld Expo and Your Mac Life has all kinds of tips and tricks to help him get through the week (relatively) unscathed!

Indeed, I have never been to a San Francisco show (I did go to a Big Apple version of Macworld a few years ago). Next week's expo will be my first time west of the Dakotas.

The legendary Nitrozac and Snaggy, authors of JoT, happened to have a cartoon likeness of yours truly on file after my piece a while back on digital avatars (such as Wii Mii characters, the famed JoT cartoons of top geeks, and so on). That feature story ran with samples of your humble correspondent done by different avatar creators.

(For today's comic, my JoT likeness has been rendered a teeny bit more child-golly-gee-whiz-like :-)

This isn't my first time in a geek comic. My esteemed Pioneer Press colleague, supercartoonist David Steinlicht, put me in one of his recent In this Corner comics after I happened to remark (not totally in jest) that my first post-lottery-win purchase would be Han Solo in Carbonite to hang on my wall.

Nitrozac, Snaggy, Shawn and David: I'm honored.
